Interests: I love to travel and see new places, and I use my writing and artistic skills to document my experiences in stories, poems, and artwork. I have lived and taught English in several places in Asia, including Taiwan, Laos, and Thailand, and I have taught in England and Hungary in Europe. I speak some Chinese, and the experience of living in and learning about different cultures has helped shape the way I teach English. The way we use language reflects not only our intentions and moods, but also our thought processes and backgrounds.
I rescued two stray dogs in Taiwan and brought them back to England. One of my dogs had been hit by a car when he was found, and he is now disabled. He now has three legs and wears a support shoe. Helping him to rehabilitate has taught me to be more patient and understanding. He is a very determined dog and many people stop to ask about him. I have named him Plucky, which means determined and courageous.
Now, I live in Oxford and I enjoy my research in the literary genre Magic Realism and long walks in the countryside. I also create English Language summer camps and lessons that are based on popular children's literature, such as Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland.
