In my current role as a 5th-grade teacher at Winpenny International School in Mexico City, I have spent the past four academic years developing a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for my students. I work within the IPC (International Primary Curriculum), which allows me to integrate cross-curricular learning in ways that ensure both academic and social-emotional development. My experience has given me the opportunity to implement differentiated instruction strategies that cater to diverse learning needs, while fostering a collaborative classroom culture that encourages critical thinking and individuality. I also work closely with colleagues to adapt our approach to ensure that students meet our high expectations.
Before this, I led literacy and behavior interventions at a large public school in London, where I worked with a wide range of students in year six, largely those with complex learning needs and severe behavioral challenges. My focus was on creating tailored intervention pathways that not only supported students academically but also helped them develop key social-emotional skills. This role taught me the vital importance of building strong relationships with both students and their families to ensure growth.
Additionally, I spent two years teaching English as a Foreign Language in Rome, Italy, where I worked with students of all ages and proficiency levels, generally preparing them for Cambridge and IELTS exams. During this role, I worked exclusively with a full immersion method - this experience deepened my understanding of language acquisition, and I developed the skills to create lesson plans that were both engaging and effective in improving language proficiency. I taught students ranging from A1 to C2, ensuring that each lesson was tailored to their individual learning styles while also preparing them for success in their exams.
