Profession: Tour Guide
Hospitality and Tourism
Taking cruise ship passengers on shore visits to historic sites and National Parks.
Interests: After I left College, where I studied Electronic engineering, worked for six years for Digital Equipment, a computer manufacturing company, first in Ireland for four years and then in Scotland for two years. I had started as a technician and later became a materials planner. I left to travel by road and on sailing boats (on which I learned to speak French) and after about two years I eventually settled in Malaga, Spain. There I has many different jobs: kitchen worker, agricultural worker, construction worker and site manager, bar worker and manager, eventually owning a night-time bar. During this time I also gave English and Spanish lessons and did translations in both languages. I worked in the film industry as an extra many times, as a driver and was credited as a second assistant director in a feature film. I spent six summer seasons working on the beach as a water sports instructor: water skiing, windsurfing, ascentional parachute, kayaking and enjoyed a great deal of success and satisfaction teaching these sports. Snow skiing was a sport in which I also helped a lot of friends to enjoy. I moved to the Canary Islands fourteen years ago where I worked for a sailing school here for five years and work part time as tour guide and work occasionally on sailboat maintenance. Of all that I have done in my life, I think teaching/tutoring/instructing/guiding are my strongest talents.
