After some years working as a deckhand on Scottish trawlers, I bought my own and usually fished alone, with care. Later, after courses at a Nautical College, I sat exams at Liverpool to qualify as a Fishing Master (UK) and Unlimited First Officer.

I developed a modular system to produce technical diaries for yachting that could be updated annually. The Brazilian Navy contracted me to produce a special version which they issued to Yacht Clubs. Shipyards also purchased special editions.

I developed the first offshore qualification courses in Portuguese for Roustabouts (AB-MOU) and Motormen (Oiler-MOU). They were given international approval and certification by Liberia, Vanuatu and Marshall Islands. We worked to ISO 9001 standards.

As Assistant to the Export Agencies Manager, my duties included the research into all new vessel constructions in agency territories, their fuel and lubricant necessities, and the costs involved. I also entertained overseas customers when in London.
Interests: My academic formation was in Business Studies. I also have a Silver Medal for skills in ‘Advanced English Language’ from the Royal Society of Arts in London. I speak ‘received English’ with little or no accent. I’m a qualified UK Fishing Master and Unlimited Foreign-going Mate, an Unlimited Amateur Captain and worked for many years as First Officer and Mate DP in the offshore oil industry before coming ashore to set up an Offshore Training Centre to teach my own internationally-approved courses.
