Professione: Researcher
Research
I am a social science researcher at UC Berkeley. I conduct qualitative research with ESL speakers. My research focuses on data collection and storytelling for progressive policy change, such as immigrant rights. This context informs how I teach.
Interessi: By origin, I am a first-generation Eritrean-American from the Southern United States. I grew up primarily in immigrant neighborhoods, hearing a mix of languages and mix of accents. I've been educated to learn Spanish as a second language, a process which informs the basis of how I teach English.
In my day job, I am a policy advocate and a social science researcher in the academic and non-profit worlds. I've traveled and lived in different regions of Mexico and in Northern Tanzania.
Given my background knowledge, I am a great fit for Spanish speakers or speakers of Semitic and Bantu languages. I am able to help you practice English language skills for the home, the workplace, or for a social services setting.
