I taught English composition and literature courses at one of the largest and highly-ranked community colleges in the United States.

Most of my students either did not speak English at home or were the first in their family to earn a college degree

Intereses: The best teaching experience I have had was the year I spent teaching English in China. My university students were nervous about speaking English with a native speaker. But, I quickly learned that their skills were far better than they feared, and I always reminded them that their English was superior to my Chinese.

But, they helped me to improve, as well as to respect non-native speakers because I discovered that English is far less logical of a language than Chinese is.

Much of my teaching career has been spent working with students whose families have either immigrated to the United States in the last generation, or who are the first member of their family to earn a college degree.

It is a privilege to help these students improve their spoken and written English.

But, it has also been rewarding and exciting to feel motivated to learn and to practice their own native language, when possible.
