All of my subjects were in Spanish(I was in a Spanish immersion program). When I got to Junior high school (around age 12) I continued taking Spanish, but then I began studying French simultaneously. By the time I reached High school I was fluent in Spanish and conversational in French. These languages opened the door for me to acquire even more languages, but with ease. Throughout my professional career I have come to realize that other cultures have more respect for you when you try to communicate with them in their own language.
